Western Digital....Will Not " Plug or Play" with my windows Vista....?

I've just bought this external Memory / Storage....and after my computer boots...I plug in the Memory....and the Vista Programme....tries to find the driver...then another window opens' to suggest Windows searche for the driver on the internet....however this window clears and reappears...several times..on it's own..so much that the computer freezes......all other processes stop working. Where do I go..?..The WstrnDigital site is no help...
