Biblical Miracles: Can They Be Explained?

Since the authors of the Biblical record were men or women of their time, unfamiliar with the causes and effects of natural phenomena, shouldn't this be taken into account when interpreting the 'miracles' they report? The Ten Plagues being linked to the contemporary Thera volcanic eruption could be cited as an example.
